LO1 Short Film Proposal

PURPOSE The purpose of our film is to entertain the viewer, we want to create something that can keep the viewer entertained and  captivated, to do this we will be using theory  from the spectator ship theory's such as  and leave them wanting more, there theories used will be based on  The Frabkfurt school theory which states that the combination of sound and a large moving image, experienced in a dark room with attention focuses on the screen makes the audience feel like they're in the scene. F ORM AND GENRE  The genre of our film will be horror, we hope to show this through certain lighting techniques, the use of sound, and the cinematography. The product we're making will be a short film ranging from 5 to 10 minutes. We will be using special effects to create realism and to make the film more entertaining  TARGET AUDIENCE The target audience is for mature viewers as there will be an amount of blood shown and mostly people who are...

LO2.3 textual analysis

https://youtu.be/ETFnaiq8VFg Mese-en-scene is the arrangement of scenery, props etc. in a scene to connote what's going on. Our film is a horror film so we tried to use as much as we can to give it that dark and gritty vibe. The types of props we used were to go along with the the characters and gory bits. An example is in the first scene when Amin is talking to the others there is a dumbbell in the back ground if the shot which was meant to convey that he is the strongest member of the group as he is the last one to survive out of them. Another use of props was when the monster was sat there devouring the bodies we used a fake ripped of hand that he was chewing with the added affect of blood squiring and bone crunching sound effects that I got from Royaltyfreesounds.com.  Another key component of mese-en-scene was lighting as this helped us form the different types of tones for the film such as the characters just sat talking in a room compared to the more disturbing scenes such a...

LO2.2 upload Rushes/Unedited Merit

https://youtu.be/nL1MRc0-oLA Scene 1  This piece of unedited footage from scene 1 includes so me generic horror conventions such as tone and lighting, by using chiaroscuro lighting which  emphasizes shadow and light . O nly using natural diegetic candle light to partly light the characters faces, a common tool when creating mystery and to  draw the viewer's focus and attention. Another common horror convention is having  relatable protagonists who makes dreadful decisions, the dialogue and costumes are very realistic to the characters age and how a real teenage friend group would act. https://youtu.be/0fvsm6AIkqE Scene 2 This piece of unedited footage from scene 2 has met generic conventions from the horror genre, this is because of its dark lighting and other techniques we used. The dark lighting helps to conceal most of the background and when the creature appears in focus for a short time. ...

LO2.1 Setting up the Equipment

Image
For the outside shots towards the end of the film we had to wait until it had stopped raining, this was to protect the camera equipment, also before Amin ran outside, because he wasn't wearing shoes we had to check the ground to make sure there wasn't anything man could trip or hurt himself on such as dog toys and other things. laying on the trampoline was ideal to get the low angled shot as showed an establishing shot, it kept both Amin and the window(where Amin tuns to look at) and was cleaner then the ground and allowed me to stay there comfortably as it took a few tries to get the shot.    Setting up the tripod was important for our film, this was because it helped us achieve new angles and cinematic footage, the tripod also allowed us to keep the camera still and get rid of the shaky cam which would happen if it was hand held. with setting up there tripod we also had to follow some safety guidelines such as moving things around on set to not get in the way of the actors o...

LO1 Analysis of short films

The Fly (2008) https://youtu.be/16ymmfya3i8 The fly is about an uptight getaway driver waiting outside a bank whilst his team mates go and rob it. He has three nerve shredding minutes to get through before they return, all he has to dot is focus but instead this goes completely wrong as a little annoying fly enters his car and starts tormenting him which causes him to start breaking things whilst trying to kill it. By the end of it the fly manages to win and makes the getaway driver screw his car up and hurt himself. The genre is an action comedy/crime. The film can be applied towards Todorov's theory as shown here: Equilibrium - Theres a bank robbery going on and the main character is a getaway driver  Disruption - The fly comes along and starts annoying him, he then realises e can't cope with the fly being there  Restored order - The Getaway driver tries the kill the fly  New equilibrium - The thugs have been caught trying to rob the bank as there is no car and you can ...
