LO1 Short Film Proposal

PURPOSE

The purpose of our film is to entertain the viewer, we want to create something that can keep the viewer entertained and captivated, to do this we will be using theory from the spectator ship theory's such as and leave them wanting more, there theories used will be based on The Frabkfurt school theory which states that the combination of sound and a large moving image, experienced in a dark room with attention focuses on the screen makes the audience feel like they're in the scene.

FORM AND GENRE 

The genre of our film will be horror, we hope to show this through certain lighting techniques, the use of sound, and the cinematography. The product we're making will be a short film ranging from 5 to 10 minutes. We will be using special effects to create realism and to make the film more entertaining 

TARGET AUDIENCE

The target audience is for mature viewers as there will be an amount of blood shown and mostly people who are into the horror genre. There will be an age warning on the film warning teenagers under 18 that they are not allowed to watch. Horror movies are more generally more aimed towards males than females. This is because stereotypically males enjoy the violence more than females. The thrill seeking attitude is also associated with males more so than females. Also young males are stereotypically seen as immature meaning that they are more susceptible to the blood, guts and gore in the horror films, generally the target interests of a horror film are blood and intense violence. However, many young females enjoy horror films just as much as females although most commonly horror films are not aimed at their genders. These types of films are also targeted at individuals that have an interest in the supernatural and the unexplained. They may also be aimed at individuals that enjoy a sense of mystery and illusion, as many horror films withhold information from the audience. It also may be targeted at groups of people , usually it tries to appeal to a younger adult audience as it is almost a social event to watch a horror film and be scared together. It also gives them something to talk about together and share on social media. 

CONTENT 

The plot revolves around a group of friends who accidentally in their stupidity invite a demonic creature to their house, which kills them off one at a time. Foley sound will be used to create the sound of the creature when it's eating/crushing the bones when eating, I will use mince meat and celery to replicate the sounds. distorted breathing will be used to create a sound for the creature that is recognisable and people can associate that sound with the creature to create suspense. The film will have a dark and gritty theme. There will be 5 main characters including the creature, some of the props we will use are the items needed to create the ritual scene, later we will use fake limbs to create the horror theme and push the age rating to 15. The costumes used for the group of friends will be realistic/casual. The film will be located in Max’s house and for the final scene his garden.

Unit 5 LO1 story board

 This story board shows the types of shots and angles in the scenes and what the characters are doing. We used a variety of shots such as an extreme close up shot for the opening scene for Harrys eyes and zoom shots such as when the monster caught the Amin and TJ and it zoomed in on their faces. This storyboard also shows what is happening in he scene to give the viewer some sort of idea in what they are seeing. This also includes shots such as POV shots when Ben goes down stairs and the viewer has their first encounter with the monster and there are also a lot of mid shots for example when everyone is setting up the candles. When Harry goes down stairs to check up on Ben there is a over the shoulder shot of the monsters hand about to grab him and then it cuts to a mid shot of Harry's face. LO1 Analysis of short films

The Fly (2008) https://youtu.be/16ymmfya3i8 The fly is about an uptight getaway driver waiting outside a bank whilst his team mates go and rob it. He has three nerve shredding minutes to get through before they return, all he has to dot is focus but instead this goes completely wrong as a little annoying fly enters his car and starts tormenting him which causes him to start breaking things whilst trying to kill it. By the end of it the fly manages to win and makes the getaway driver screw his car up and hurt himself. The genre is an action comedy/crime.
