Sound

Digetic - coming from the story world i.e. the characters can hear it

Non-diegetic

Synchronous - You can hear a sound and see the thing making the sound and they match up

Asynchronous - You can hear a sound (OFF SCREEN) but you can't see what is making that sound on screen

Contrapuntal - The sound (or music) contradicts the image they don't match (This links to Sergai Eisensteins Intellectual Montage)

Sound Perspective - Sound perspective refers to which direction

Sound is built is layers

A score in a film is a mix of sounds and the way in which the sound has been put together

Dialogue and sound effects can be broken into a category which relates to the picture reference that is used during the creation. Sync sound is sound that is recorded with reference to pictures.

The most important sound because it tells the story

Exposition is dialogue that explains

Voice over is where a narrator describes events to the audience. They can be diegetic or non diegetic

Sound effects can be recorded live on action , created by a sound designer or pre recorded library sounds

Foley effects, sound effects created in a studio by Foley Artists (a.k.a. Walkers)

Sound Bridges are a continuity editing technique, the sound or music from one scene carries over into the following scene

Incidental music/score = Non diegetic background music, Manipulates the audiences emotions, Works with editing to create rhythm and pace

Theme music is music that is used to identify something, i.e. a character, place, idea etc, or the films signature title music

Leitmotif theme music is a recurring musical idea (a melody, chord sequence, rhythm or a combination of these) which is associated with a particular idea, character or place

Motifs are used inIT as balloons

Motifs are also in star-wars and are used with lightsabers and Darth vadors theme tune
