Screen play
“THE RITUAL”
Scene 1

Scene description/opening

The scene starts with the characters all sitting on the sofas watching a horror movie the camera cuts to an extreme close up of the TV reflecting of the character 1’s eye as the ritual happens, the movie ends.


FADE IN:

BEN

well that was awful


HARRY

nah, I thought it was decent


BEN

Can we watch spider-man 2 now?


TEEJ

were not watching Spider-man 2 again, you say this every time

(Amin sighing and looking bored)


BEN

What’s up?


AMIN

we’ve watched 3 films tonight can we do something different I’m kind of getting board.


HARRY

yeah so am I to be honest


TEEJ

Well what do you want to do then


HARRY

I don’t know, I’m just getting a drink

(harry goes downstairs, he comes back up with 5 candles and the other things needed for the ritual)


AMIN

Nah bro are you dumb


HARRY

What, I thought you were bored?


BEN

Fine, how do you set it out 


TEEJ

Were you not watching the film


BEN

Shut up tee jay


AMIN

5 one each for us and 1 for the demon


TEEJ

Why candles though?


HARRY

When we light The candles, it basically attaches us to the spirit world and the candle represents our souls


AMIN

what the fuck are you talking about


TEEJ

Stop waffling

 

BEN

I’m just gonna shut the blinds


(ben shuts the blinds, leaving a small crack left)

FADE OUT TO TITLE CARD:


END OF SCENE 1


Scene 2

Scene description/opening they begin the ritual, they sit in a circle with the lights off and everyone lights their own candle that represents themselves, character 1 lights the final candle which represents the entity they are calling, they hold hands in a circle and invite the being


(everyone sits in a circle. and Lights their candle)


TEEJ

who’s gonna light the spirit candle then


HARRY

I will, we’ve still got to invite It,


BEN

does everyone remember what to say


HARRY

yeah


TEEJ

yep


AMIN

same


BEN

let’s start then, 3,2,1


ALL CHARACTERS

to a spirit that might hear this we invite you to join us.


AMIN

now what


HARRY

bro shut up we got to wait a bit


TEEJ

yeah this definitely failed


AMIN

yeah obviously, its from a movie dipshit 


BEN

I’m going downstairs

ACTION- as the door opens a shadow runs past quickly                 


AMIN

oi, did anyone else see a shadow behind ben


BEN

shut up Amin you’re not scaring me


AMIN

I’m not even joking


BEN

ye course your not


TEEJ

where you going


BEN 

I’m just going toilet

(as ben is walking downstairs he hears a noise coming from another room downstairs, he goes to check and sees its just harry's brother)


SAM

What


HARRY

Nothing


(as the camera is facing ben we can see something moving around behind him in the darkness, he is walking towards the kitchen and a hand reaches over his shoulder, he turns around but there’s nothing there, he walks further into the kitchen and sees the creature in the mirror the creature jumps forwards but the camera cuts back to the others and one of the candles is out)


End of scene 2


Scene 3


(15 minutes passes and there is a time lapse of them talking)


TEEJ

Where’s ben gone it’s been 15 minutes


HARRY

I’m gonna go see where he is


(harry goes downstairs looking for ben, he finds his and Sam’s dead body, he turns around to run to the others but the creature is right in his face he screams and a blood slat goes onto the wall. Upstairs the others jump up and after hearing harry scream. They slowly walk down the stairs and hear a strange bone crunching noise and the sound of harry being eaten. They shine a torch downstairs and see the creature chewing on harry's severed hand, it suddenly looks up straight at them)


 TEEJ

What the hell is that!


(amin doesn't move just staring terrified, tee jay grabs him and they run upstairs and the creature follows them, they hold the door shut and the creature is on the other side)


AMIN

What happened, how is this even possible! 


(shouting as they struggle against the wall)


TEEJ

I don’t know, we did it right, but even if we didn’t I didn’t believe it was real


(he turns his back to the door to push it and sees the blind slightly open, the creature stops pushing on the door, all dialogue until they go downstairs they need to be struggling against the door as they say It)


AMIN

Its stopped shall we look or keep holding it.

(tee jay doesn’t respond)


AMIN

Oi teej, what now


TEEJ

Didn’t the thing say the room had to be pitch black.


AMIN

Yeah, besides the candles, why what’s wrong


TEEJ

The blind is open a bit; light was coming through. That’s why the ritual went wrong.


(A shadow appears in front of the blind and it looks like the creature)


TEEJ

Erm… Amin, AMIN! What’s that


(Amin shines a torch on it and sees it’s the creature)


AMIN

 it’s in here!


(they open and door and run downstairs, tee jay runs through a door but it brings him back into the main room and the creature kills him, the third candle goes out and Amin runs outside into the garden, he sees the creature in the window staring at him, Amin looks down the side the side of the house to see a gate (he looks at it as his way to escape) he looks back up but the creature is gone, he looks around and sees it in another window, it then moves from window to window faster and tense music builds up, it stops and stares at Amin for a few seconds then vanishes he sees the creature in the windows reflection stood behind him. He turns around slowly and he’s face to face with the creature, about 8 inches apart. It cuts to a close up shot of the candles and the remaining 2 both go out together.)

Unit 5 LO1 story board

 This story board shows the types of shots and angles in the scenes and what the characters are doing. We used a variety of shots such as an extreme close up shot for the opening scene for Harrys eyes and zoom shots such as when the monster caught the Amin and TJ and it zoomed in on their faces. This storyboard also shows what is happening in he scene to give the viewer some sort of idea in what they are seeing. This also includes shots such as POV shots when Ben goes down stairs and the viewer has their first encounter with the monster and there are also a lot of mid shots for example when everyone is setting up the candles. When Harry goes down stairs to check up on Ben there is a over the shoulder shot of the monsters hand about to grab him and then it cuts to a mid shot of Harry's face. Throughout the story there are multiple songs and sound effects used. In the scenes where Harry is walking down stairs their is really creepy and eerie music in the back what gets load...

LO1 Analysis of short films

The Fly (2008) https://youtu.be/16ymmfya3i8 The fly is about an uptight getaway driver waiting outside a bank whilst his team mates go and rob it. He has three nerve shredding minutes to get through before they return, all he has to dot is focus but instead this goes completely wrong as a little annoying fly enters his car and starts tormenting him which causes him to start breaking things whilst trying to kill it. By the end of it the fly manages to win and makes the getaway driver screw his car up and hurt himself. The genre is an action comedy/crime.
